vacation - day one

happy winter vacation!
the bf and i decided we should take
the last week in december off from work....
and boy was that the best decision in the world!

since winter attempted to ruin christmas--
we spent christmas eve and day with his families and
then headed to chucktown
to spend the weekend thru monday with mine.
last night was OUR christmas together in omaha,
and really... i would have it no other way.

thus, today is the first day of vacation.
i've started it out right with this little baby:
(image taken by me, in bed, with my mac and coffee)
i love my new cup bf found me.
it's made out of recycled materials,
and i can take it to coffee shops!
merry christmas, planet.

i'm really pumped to take some sweet photos
with my TWO new cameras.
i got a lovely canon from my parents,
and the holga i've been lusting over from bf!
sometime this week we are going on a romantic
carriage ride around dtown omaha, and i'm
sure to get a TON of twinkle light photos!

in all seriousness, i don't know what i did
that was so good to be so blessed this year.
i'm talking from december to december.
i got a promotion at work doing
something that i actually do enjoy.
my dad's health was a bit rocky,
but somehow he is doing a bit better.
my mom continues to be a great
listener, and always has something sweet to say.
emma the pup is so fun and cuddly.
i have a wonderful bf who has
an equally wonderful family.
2009 was wonderful.

i'm off to play with my holga.
happy day one.

candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup

Ah! It's almost Christmas! I can't decide if my insomnia last night was due to being all jacked up on peppermint mocha and christmas cookies, my excitement to open presents, or just my withdrawl from nyquil (knock on wood, i'm feeling good!).

We had our 10 Week Awards on Saturday,
and even though nobody from my team won...
The 1k winner looked fantastic.

The BF and I had a fun time taking photos in the booth...
(which totally gave us a discount - after I put the first two dollars in, it started shooting!)

...before going to Stella's where I got my
Carmel Shake poured on my head!
I really hope Santa has two cameras listed in
his big book for me this year!
(I watched Elf last night)
A Diana or Holga AND a new point and shoot!

Oh, how I love Christmas.

Since the BF and I live in two different cities, of course we need TWO different trees!
Here are some craptastic text photos of our Christmas Trees...

My Des Moines Mini Tree with Antique Glass Ornaments

BF's Omaha Tree decorated by yours truly

I wrapped all of those gifts this weekend, and there's still a few more to go. BF accused me of using all of the pretty ribbons on my family's gifts. But, I would like it to be known that I put my very favorite on his niece's gift (it's that huge green bow on the right hand side).

I've been thinking about Christmas growing up. It has always been such a magical time of year with twinkle lights, pretty trees, snow, family visiting, and ... presents. It has always been so difficult for me to write a Christmas List, and the reason is because there's really nothing that I want more than to sit in front of the fire and Christmas tree eating a yummy cookie and just spending time with the people that I love. Don't get me wrong, I'd probably cry if everyone returned my gifts and gave me coupons for quality time together... But, really... that's what Christmas is all about. Spending time with one another, remembering the reason for the season, and being thankful for all we have been through during the year.

As much as I want a Holga, new digi cam, and bum warmer for my Car... The health and happiness of all those I care about is far more important that ripping open the shiny paper on one of those bad boys.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Feliz Navidad. :)

It's so amazing how things can turn around for the better so quickly when you just
take a deep breath, relax, and have faith
that everything will be alright. I was fairly certain my life was over because
my phone was drowned
on Thursday.
Well, let me be the first to tell you... phone insurance is amazing.
I had a pretty craptastic loaner over the weekend
(it was about a step up from the bag phone of the early 90s),
but my new one was on my front stoop yesterday afternoon! Woo! I can text again!
BF and I had such a great weekend. The weather was pretty gross, so we might have done a lot of cooking... and eating. :)
Here's some highlights...
Friday night we made cheeseburger and fries casserole.. yep. it's as amazing as it sounds. We watched Gran Torino. I cried*.
We cheered on THE Iowa Hawkeyes to a 5-0 victory in the south end zone.
We ate a huge breakfast and lounged around reading the paper.
I played, colored, danced, and giggled with his adorable niece.
Then we shared a lovely Sunday Meal with his family.
But, then he had to go back to Omaha... and I attempted not to cry.
I miss him.
*I pretty much cry during every movie.
This one moved me because he was getting absolution for what he had done.
lthough he didn't need to, he did. So great. Watch it if you haven't.
While I'm suggesting movies.
Also watch Seven Pounds. I cried like a baby for about
twenty minutes AFTER the movie was over.
:-\

sad day...

I'm morning the loss of my little qwerty phone and iPod who died at the hand of my Sigg bottle. I know the rice method has worked for so many, but I'm pretty sure it's fair to say they are goners. :( Stupid Keli being in a stupid rush and not putting the cap on tight enough. Ugh.
Happy Friday.

cookies

Bf gets these cookies in Omaha
before coming to visit DSM.
They are like a little circle of heaven.
I just recently found the nutrition facts, though,
and will probably ask him
to stop bringing them as often. Yipes.

gma jo cupcakes

My Grandma Jo was an awesome baker.
She made this delicious
chocolate layer cake with cream cheese and coconut frosting
for everyone's birthday. Such a yummy treat.
So, I decided to take that recipe, and make cupcakes.
This is how they turn out...

brief hiatus

Oh, my goodness.

I didn't think people would read my blog. I mean... I live in Iowa for gosh sakes! I have a slight blog reading addiction, just a little bit less than my addiction to sugar, but other than that I'm as normal as any other Keli can be. I came back from my summer vacation away from blogging, and I find comments! Like... from some of my favorite bloggers! This has been a pretty cruddy work week for me, but I have a HUGE grin on my face now. The blog world is so full of sweet and wonderful people. It makes me super happy to be a part of it! Thanks for turning my frown upside down!

summer '09

What have I been doing this summer?

my adorable little point and shoot, cam, bit the big one.
i've been lost without him. rip.

bf sent me these glorious flowers* to ease the pain
how could i be sad with these in the apt?

i've visited bf in omaha, ne.

where i spotted a darling little storefront in the old market
where my some-day cupcakery could be.

i was surprised with 80-35 tickets.
i got to see broken social scene,
ben harper & relentless 7, g love & special sauce, among many others.

i perfected my chocolate cupcakes
with cream cheese and coconut frosting.
to die for.

i spent many hours coaching
extreme bodyshaping kickboxing.
it's hardcore.

lots of summer evening walks.
lots of day dreaming.
pretty much a perfect summer.
(minus cam... rip)

next up is the IOWA state fair!
the only place you can eat
breakfast, lunch, and dinner
on a stick!
(i think)

i love my mom!

 Happy Mother's Day, Mom!
"I'm fortunate that I was born
To someone just like you;
I love you, not just as my mom,
But for what you are and do."

(I don't know where this is from... sorry!)

my happy list

I haven't blogged in a million years, so I'm kind of getting everything out in one day. Thanks for reading!

There's this little blog that I love to read, and live vicariously through it's lovely author (whom I've never met, yet feel we could be fast friends). It's The Rockstar Diaries, and you really must find it. Now! It has inspired me to make MY happy list.

That's just ten of my happy things! It doesn't include giggles with my girls, heart to hearts with my fam, spinning in my living room because i can, my morning shower jam sessions, and waking up to kisses and back tickles. It's a little tough to allow myself to be down when I am surrounded by such lovely things!

pretty petals

I adore spring, and everything that it has to offer. Melting snow, thunderstorms, green grass, and happy little flower gardens. This year I am planting my first ever all by my lonesome big girl garden. My apartment has this little patch of dirt/grass right next to my stoop. I've decided to claim it, figuring I would add to the curb appeal of our building. I doubt landlord would mind (I hope). Thank goodness I have my friend Ryan to help me out! I'm so excited.

This weekend was THE Tulip Festival. Here are some lovely shots from my adventure!

spring has sprung!

The weather is finally warming up, and I am able to add a few pops of springy color to my wardrobe. You don't even understand how excited I am about spring! This winter has been a bugger. I recently added this handbag and this scarf to my ever growing stash. I love that yellow, teal, slate blue, and dark dark reds are back. So cool, so mod, soooo my style! :)

I'm still looking around for a spring trench that doesn't look like everyone else's, but also could be worn into fall. Any ideas?

being arty*

Labels: ,

I have recently found that I enjoy crafting. I just made this lovely coat rack for my front entry (ok... it's actually the two feet near my door in my living room).

I had seen this really awesome wooden knob installation on another blog (I can't remember.. oops!) Anyway, it was like a million bucks. So, I made due with an old frame/painting from Goodwill, some wooden drawer pulls, and some left over black paint.

I wanted to make something that looked like art when standing alone, but also served a function. I think I did pretty well...

*ps: crafting makes me think of the country style crafts that are all about the midwest, and were in every home I had been in as a child. So, I like to think I'm being arty... not crafty. :)

I love my apartment. It makes me so happy to come home to it every day. Sorry that the pics are backwards. I took them with my MacBook a while ago... I should really take some new ones, because it is ever changing! :)

My dining room/desk/crafting area
And finally... introducing the chair I rescued from a dumpster! (new paint and fabric, of course!)
